THE HISTORY

Italian plaster, also known as polished or marble plaster was first used around 2000 years ago in ancient Rome. Original samples have been uncovered in the ruins at Pompeii. It has undergone a few changes since then, but essentially the original recipe of slaked lime and marble dust has stayed the same. Resins have been added in recent years to allow deeper and more vibrant colours to be used.
You may have heard of Venetian plaster, this is just one of a range of plasters that we use. The name comes from 16th century Venice during the renaissance. The city was sinking in the mud, and the use of solid marble to adorn the walls was impossible. Architects of the day came up with a polished plaster that mimicked the beauty and permanence of marble. Venetian plaster is still in use today (Stucco Veneziano) and is one of our more luxurious finishes.

THE PRESENT

We have a range of plasters that mimic surfaces from polished marble, to textured stone. They are all breathable and are mould and mildew resistant, and in some cases totally waterproof so can be used in showers and wet rooms.
We can achieve a modern or classic look to any wall, be it a focal point or feature wall in your home, a lounge, hallway or bathroom. Or in an office reception area, restaurant or shop display, or a theatre or hotel lobby.

The plasters we use are all highly decorative and set to very hard durable surface. They come in a wide range of colours with a choice of finishes, from polished marble, polished or textured stone, metallic, silk, wax, even rust.
All our plasters are imported from Villafranca di Verona in Italy.
